Just in time for summer, Oakywood has released new felt MacBook and iPad cases made from an eco-friendly leather alternative called Washpapa. After trying out the company’s Felt AirPods cases, as well as the Walnut and Polycarbonate iPhone 12 cases, we were pretty pleased. Now it’s time to take a closer look at the new Washpapa Felt MacBook and iPad case in our latest 9to5Toys review. For more details, check out the full list below.
Similar to the aforementioned AirPods case, Oakywood uses “soft and durable” merino wool felt for its new MacBook and iPad cases. The material, along with leather alternatives, continues the brand’s focus on eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes, while still creating a high-quality accessory at an affordable price. All products are made in a Polish facility using “ethical manufacturing processes and certified eco-friendly materials.”
The felt sleeves are decorated with an outer pocket made from a material called “washpapa” – impregnated sewing and washing paper, which can be used as an alternative to eco-leather.
Felt Oakywood MacBook and iPad cases are available now, starting at $55, in charcoal and light gray. All cases feature an exterior brown Washpapa pocket.
This felt case will effectively protect your MacBook during mountain climbing and daily commute. The external Washpapa pocket stores all the necessary small items such as documents or cables, and the soft and durable merino wool felt protects your device from bumps and scratches.
I’ve had the opportunity to use this MacBook in person over the past few weeks, and I want to share my impressions.
First off, the merino wool felt is exactly what I expected when I picked up Oakywood’s AirPods case: a thick, durable, fuzzy material that doesn’t feel as soft to the touch as I’d like. It’s not as rough and scratchy as it might seem, and some people might like the rough feel. I prefer a more luxurious feel. However, it’s definitely soft enough that it won’t scratch your precious Apple device.
As for the fit, it’s quite tight, maybe too tight. The first few times I tried to get the MacBook all the way in, it was a struggle. But after a few days, it loosened up and now I feel very comfortable and snug.
The best way I can describe the Oakywood Felt MacBook Case is that it feels like a very thick, almost textured paper, but it’s more durable and doesn’t tear as much. It’s definitely not a leather replacement in my opinion, although it does have a slightly wrinkled leather-like texture. I really like how it pairs with the charcoal gray wool, which is definitely the highlight of this design. I just wouldn’t position it as a leather replacement.
Overall, the new Oakywood Felt MacBook and iPad cases are a great choice for those looking for eco-friendly tech accessories. Sure, there are more affordable options out there, but that’s always the case, and it’s rare to find a case wrapped in such high-quality, natural materials. As long as you don’t expect Washpapa to feel like leather, this is a good choice for those looking for an eco-friendly MacBook/iPad case in this price range.
