To control clutter and keep things more organized, a simple basket is your best bet. The following five baskets are perfect for almost any cleaning need.
As versatile containers for things you have nowhere else to put, they allow you to quickly control clutter and maintain order.
“We use them for everything,” said Lauren Bucksbaum Gordon, who partnered with Nate Burks in Chicago this summer. “People usually associate baskets with toys, but we use them for towels, accessories, firewood, and umbrellas.”
Sometimes, she says, Nate Berkus designers even use small baskets to add a touch of sophistication to plain napkins in the bathroom: “Anything to hide what’s really going on.”
“We look for something that’s durable, reasonably priced and fits in with the decor,” says Ms. Bucksbaum-Gordon, unless the basket is going to be in a nursery, in which case kids might opt for something more playful. “Usually we just want them to shut up.”
What material looks and works best? “Anything woven from natural fibers will work,” Ms. Bucksbaum-Gordon said. “We’ve made a lot of baskets out of sea grass.”
How to put several baskets together? “I’ve always liked odd numbers,” she said. “Or alternate a big one with a small one.”
What’s the best shape? “Sometimes rectangular baskets work better in a certain space, like under a console,” Ms. Bucksbaum-Gordon said. “But in most cases, I’d still go with a round one.”
