There’s no doubt that boho-chic style is officially back: Just look at Sienna Miller’s huge smile as she sat front row at Chemena Kamali’s two Chloé shows. In an interview with Vogue, the actor said of the creative director’s debut at the French fashion house: “It was the most beautiful fashion show I’ve seen in a long time. It was like my dream wardrobe was walking through me. It was so nostalgic—how the brand felt in the early 2000s.”
So it was only a matter of time before Kamali reintroduced Chloé’s iconic 2000s bag. Back then, Miller could often be spotted carrying the Paraty, with its signature U-shaped hardware, or the Silverado, covered in studs. Meanwhile, the brand’s most famous bag from the early 2000s is, of course, the Paddington, which has been worn by everyone from Kate Bosworth and Mischa Barton to Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry. In fact, the padlock bag was so popular that all 8,000 bags produced for the spring/summer 2005 season sold out before they even hit stores.
As vintage bags continue to grow in popularity, it’s no surprise that the resale market has taken the lead over other brands. In fact, Vestiaire Collective found that Paddington bag sales increased by 130% in 2023. What’s more, Silverado and Paraty bag sales have doubled in 2024, while demand for the Marcie (a favorite of Miller and Katie Holmes, reissued during Gabriella Hearst’s reign) and Kerala bags has also been strong, proving that understated styles are also becoming more popular.
“Chloé has a very feminine feel, and the luxury bohemian vibe we know is back with Chemena,” said Sophie Hersan, co-founder and fashion director of Vestiaire Collective, noting that searches for the brand’s bags have increased 220% in the past two years. “People are falling in love with Chloé all over again.”
But it’s not just boho-chic lovers who are rediscovering Chloé bags from the 2000s. Vogue street style photographer Asiel Tanbetova was recently spotted with a mini Paddington doll adorned with her Monchhichi monkey lucky charm bag. “I love its miniature size and elegant shape,” she explains of the appeal of the style. “I searched for a long time and finally found one in perfect condition on Vestiaire. Even though it’s huge, it’s surprisingly roomy.”
Given Sienna’s penchant for returning to her ’90s staples (check out her camel lace-up boots), expect her to be wearing her old Chloé bags again in the near future. In the meantime, check out Vogue’s roundup of the best vintage Chloé bags worth investing in.
