Virgil Abloh and Louis Vuitton have unveiled the new Felt Line, which debuted last year at the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2021 show. The capsule collection showcases Louis Vuitton’s renewed commitment to the circular economy and features three classic leather goods crafted from sustainable materials.
The Felt Line bags are a new take on the Louis Vuitton classic, crafted from organic cotton, recycled wool jacquard, 100% recycled polyester (sourced from existing stocks), and recycled plastic chain. All products in the capsule collection are heavily inspired by the moving blankets that Abloh used as a starting point for his blanket designs.
The designer has reworked the Keepall and Keepall XS, as well as the Soft Trunk (a design he debuted at his first Louis Vuitton show), in grey felt. Each bag features a Monogram stitched in lurex, giving the impression that the bag disappears and reappears. Other details include linings made from existing stock, chains and corners made from recycled plastic with a multi-coloured effect, and straps and handles made from Leather Working Group-certified leather.
At the presentation of the collection, Christelle Capdupuis, Louis Vuitton’s global head of sustainability, told WWD: “We are also committed to using existing raw material reserves to protect natural resources. Virgil Abloh often does this in his collections. Today, we are taking our commitment one step further by extending our sustainable approach to all raw materials, with the goal of reaching 100% responsible raw materials by 2025.”
The full Felt Line collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores on July 16. A limited edition jacket made from the same material will also be available.
