Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Borough Council has launched a call for applications from people interested in building and operating a water sauna.
The sauna will be located at Dun Laoghaire Harbour and is being promoted by the council as “a place of relaxation and rejuvenation for locals and visitors”.
The floating sauna is located next to the old pier and is a pontoon complex no more than 8 meters long and no more than 5 meters wide.
The committee also said “sustainability is a key focus” and applications from individuals and businesses should “prioritise self-sufficiency and environmentally friendly practices”.
Dun Laoghaire Harbour is a heritage site of national and international significance and a major maritime centre in Ireland.
The port has a rich sailing history and is home to four yacht clubs and the country’s largest provider of sailing training.
Although it is a sailing centre, the council said it was working to “actively expand” public participation in a variety of water sports.
The floating sauna will be a unique addition to visitors’ relaxation and will allow them to enjoy the harbour in a new way.
DLRCC is seeking proposals to operate a floating sauna under a licensing agreement. Proposals must include business details, design options, pricing and sustainability strategies.
Candidates must demonstrate experience in the maritime sector and the ability to provide services. The assessment process consists of two stages: a written application and a competitive dialogue.
