When traveling to an extreme sports mecca like Summit County, many people want to bring their pets with them or need the assistance of a service animal.
Therefore, it is important to find a place that suits not only you, but also your furry friend.
For the third year in a row, The Pad Hostel in Silverthorne Mountain topped the Summit 2024 Best Hotels list. The hostel and hotel were named Best Pet-Friendly by the 2024 Best of Summit Awards.
“We simply want to create an open and inclusive space for everyone,” said Abby Arlt, The Pad’s chief marketing officer. “As we work toward this goal, we understand that for many people, pets are more than just animals. This reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming environment for everyone.”
While many hotels reserve multiple rooms for guests with pets, The Pad does the opposite. All private rooms are pet-friendly, but one room of each type is reserved for guests with pet allergies or who prefer not to stay in a pet-friendly room.
The riverside lawns and walking paths provide excellent exercise and social opportunities for pets and their owners. The park also has poo bags.
The Pad opened in late 2021 and quickly won the Best New Business award in 2022, as well as the Best Accommodation/Hotel award two years in a row, as well as other accolades such as Best Trivia/Game Night, Best Bartender, Best Entertainment Venue, and Best Pet Friendly Business.
Not only will The Pad be your home away from home during your stay in Summit County, but it also features an on-site bar and restaurant, as well as a variety of events for residents and the community. From live music to drag shows, there’s never a dull moment at The Pad.
“Building community through tourism is incredibly important to us,” Art said. “Being able to be a platform for locals to interact with tourists has always been a big part of our mission. There seems to be a stereotype in Summit County that there is competition between tourists and locals, and we are working hard to eradicate that stereotype.”
Summit Daily is launching a multi-year project to digitize its archives, dating back to 1989, and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historical Newspaper Collection. The entire project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations in 2023 will go directly to the project.
