The 36-year-old Dancing With the Stars alum responded to fans’ concerns on Sept. 29 by posting a video on Instagram titled “Sunday Spa Day .” In the video, Hough dances in a sauna while wearing a bikini, black hat, and red light therapy mask. She also played and jumped on a trampoline outside.
The next day, Hough posted a lengthy message responding to critics who called her behavior in the video “weird.” Someone asked her if she was okay.
“I don’t usually respond to comments like this, but I wanted to speak out about this video,” she wrote on Instagram Stories.
She answered fans’ questions one by one: the black hat is a “protective cap to prevent hot steam from burning your hair,” and she also said that the hat is also called a “sauna cap.” She also explained why she chose red light therapy, saying, “It’s incredibly good for you, and you kill two birds with one stone when you’re in a sauna.”
She also said: “Today’s visit to my friend was something new for me – this is their daily routine – sauna, cold shower, jumping. Walking is good for the lymphatic system, it promotes lymphatic drainage, helping to protect the body from diseases and infections.”

She then went into detail about her current physical and mental health. “I’ve never been healthier — I was in my early 20s and had so much inflammation and [autoimmunity] symptoms that I started working on it really hard a year and a half ago,” Hough said.
“I have been freezing my eggs for the last few years and it has made a difference to my body. I have never been healthier or happier,” she continued. “Grief, loss, sadness and fear are also stored in the body, and we store them in different ways. Over the years, I have made it my mission to accept, express, process and release a lot of emotions.”
“I’ve heard the argument that when children are at their most naughty and capable of acting strange and eccentric, that means that’s when it’s safest for them to do so,” she said.
“My playful, silly side reflects how confident I am in myself and those around me. Everyone close to me knows that this side of me means that I am as free of judgment as possible about myself and others.”
The former America’s Got Talent judge then responded to fans who “really care” about this “unusual” side of her. “I understand that what you don’t understand can seem weird and scary sometimes,” she said.
