SK Innovation has deployed robots in an oil spill prevention drill in Korea for the first time to quickly and safely respond to oil spills.
SK Innovation announced on August 21 that it will conduct a joint oil spill prevention drill at the SK terminal near Ulsan CLX as an early response to the oil spill that occurred on August 20.
The Ark-M oil extraction robot used in the drill was developed by Sheco, a startup invested by SK Innovation. It can suck up 30,000 liters of water and pollutants per hour and purify them into clean water. It can be controlled remotely, ensuring operator safety, and it can be deployed without any assembly, allowing even non-experts to quickly respond to emergencies.
SK innovation’s subsidiary SK enterm, which is responsible for the exercise, plans to consider purchasing Sheco’s water recycling robot and expand cooperation based on the results of the exercise. Earlier this year, Sheco won the CES 2024 Innovation Award for its business innovation. The company is currently selling its products to the Indonesian National Port Authority to expand its presence in the global market. Since 2020, SK Innovation has been developing and supporting Sheco through social contribution projects.
