The best blankets provide maximum comfort, whether you’re looking for a queen or king-size blanket or a cozy blanket to watch TV under on the couch. While you won’t have to spend a lot of money on a blanket, a blanket like this will last you a long time.
“A good blanket can last for generations if properly cared for,” says Jennifer M. Woodson, a textile developer at JMW Textiles in Costa Mesa, Calif.
To find the best blankets, we tested more than 100 blankets in our labs and at home. We rated each blanket on six criteria: quality, comfort, temperature regulation, ease of cleaning, durability, and value. The final ranking was determined by averaging each blanket’s score in each category.
We also consulted with Woodson to get more information about blankets, including what features to look for, what types of materials are best for different conditions, and how to care for your blankets to ensure they last for years to come.
We evaluated more than 100 blankets based on material, quality, texture, temperature regulation, and durability. For more information on how we test blankets, check out our testing process below.
Even before we learned the price, we already suspected that the Saatva Quilt would be a good investment. Overall, it feels luxurious, thanks in part to the high-quality 100% organic cotton fabric and precise stitching.
While this is one of the more expensive products we tested, we think it’s worth the money. During testing, we were impressed by its beautiful suede-like exterior texture (it’s organic cotton velvet, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)) and woven cotton interior, as well as the perfect weight.
This blanket is thick enough to cover a full double bed, almost touching the floor on three sides. While it doesn’t flow much, we found it lays nicely. Once we settled in, we found it was snug and comfortable, but not too heavy or hot.
After washing, the fabric was left clean and stain-free. The pet brush also cleans the fabric easily without snagging and has very few snags to brush out, making it a good choice for pet owners.
Given the high price, this blanket requires more complex care: the manufacturer recommends spot cleaning or dry cleaning, but in extreme cases it can be washed with similar colors on a gentle cycle in cold water and tumble dried at a low temperature.
Product Details: Sizes: Twin/Queen, King/California King | Materials: Organic Cotton, Velvet | Weight: Not Specified | Care Instructions: Best if spot cleaned or dry cleaned; Machine wash cold with like colors; Gentle cycle; Do not bleach; Tumble dry low
It’s no surprise that the Boll & Branch waffle blanket earned a near-perfect score in our testing: The brand is known for its luxurious fabrics and high-quality details, and their waffle blanket doesn’t disappoint.
This blanket is made from 100% organic long-staple cotton, which is super soft, feels great, and is the perfect weight. When we tested it at home, we were thrilled with how this blanket warmed us up quickly when we were cold, but never made us overheat. Because this blanket has the right weight and texture, it is perfect for both the warm and cooler months of the year.
Waffle fabric also has a beautiful design with stylish peaks and valleys. Like other waffle blankets, this weave can snag easily, so you need to be careful about how and where you use it. For example, it may not be the best option for pet owners.
Overall, this blanket is worth the money, especially if you like the waffle texture and want a blanket that is warm but not too hot or heavy. It is comfortable to use, easy to clean, and looks great on your bed.

The Luxome lightweight blankets have a satin-soft surface and are pleasant to the touch. It is made of 100% bamboo fiber, very pleasant to the touch, not at all rough, has the perfect weight and drapes softly. It is beautifully made, with folded edges and neatly quilted surfaces.
This blanket covers the mattress nicely and is large enough to be used as a throw or bed cover. While it’s not as lightweight as it claims (we found it to be quite hefty), it does a good job of regulating temperature.
Overall, we think this is a good choice for summer, especially if you sleep in an air-conditioned room. We found that even after five minutes, the skin remained cool.
This blanket is already very soft, and after washing it becomes even softer. Also good: no stains, noticeable rips, cuts, protruding threads or snags. The pet brush also cleaned the surface of the blanket very well, leaving no traces of damage.

If you’re looking for a really cozy blanket to snuggle up in while watching TV on a chilly evening, check out the Pottery Barn Crinkled Faux Fur Blanket. This 100% polyester faux fur blanket is durable and has a luxurious look and feel.
This blanket comes in seven stylish colors and two sizes. We’ve been testing this blanket in our home for over a year. Despite frequent use and washing, the material is still in great condition, with no noticeable signs of wear or loose threads.
We love the soft texture of this blanket. There are also little details that make it look sophisticated, like the velvet trim. Plus, it’s thick and warm. This blanket weighs 750 grams, which is a heavy weight, and it’s very thick, so it feels like a weighted blanket. While this makes it perfect for cooler evenings, it may be too warm to use in bed or even on the couch in the height of summer.
Product Details: Size: 50″ x 60″ | Material: Acrylic, Polyester, and Spandex | Weight: 750 grams | Care: Dry clean recommended.
This wool blanket is extremely soft, well made and luxurious, it meets all the requirements and more.
The first thing we noticed about the Garnet Hill Heritage Softest Wool Blanket is how soft it is. Made from 100% wool, this blanket is probably one of the softest blankets we’ve ever tested. After using it at home for a few weeks, we were pleased to find that it became softer and smoother to the touch over time.
During our testing, we found this blanket to be exceptionally well constructed. The weight is perfect and the size is good. We tested the queen size on our bed and found it to be a great fit for two people without having to tug at it at night.
The fabric of this blanket feels soft to the touch. Even after several weeks of use, we found almost no signs of wear – the fabric just felt slightly soft, which actually added to the overall comfort.
We find this blanket not only soft but also warm enough to keep you warm on cold nights. It retains heat well but is not so stuffy that you will overheat. So it can be used during the transitional period and in winter.
This blanket is very versatile. Depending on the size you choose, it can be used as a bedspread or fitted sheet. Keep in mind that it is dry clean only, so you will need to factor that into the overall cost, especially if you plan on using it often.

If softness is the most important factor when choosing a blanket, the LL Bean Wicked Cozy Blanket is definitely your best choice. When testing it, we described it as smooth and soft, and said it was a blanket that you just want to snuggle up in.
The blanket is well-made and well-made, scoring top marks in all categories in lab testing. It’s made from LLBean’s Lustre Loft polyester fleece, which is moderately thick but still provides plenty of warmth. When laid on the bed, it provides just the right amount of coverage and drapes beautifully, yet feels soft.
Equally impressive is that this blanket performed well in our durability tests. After washing, the blanket had no defects, including loose threads. After washing, the stain was completely gone, and we couldn’t tell where exactly the paint was.
It also performed very well in the pet cleaning test, leaving only minor brush marks. Overall, the blanket looks like new, so we think it will stand the test of time.
Price-wise, this blanket is somewhere in the middle of our list. We think the price is quite reasonable considering the high quality of the material and its incredible softness.
While this isn’t necessarily a negative, we did notice that it looked more plain and utilitarian than stylish. For example, if you want a nice throw blanket to show off on your couch, this might not be the best choice for your home.
Product details: Sizes: Twin, Double/Queen, King and Extra Long King | Material: Polyester, shiny fluffy fleece | Weight: 400 g / m² | Care instructions: Machine wash, do not tumble dry
The Big Blanket Co. Original Stretch Blanket is large, very comfortable, and only comes in one size. If you’re also looking for a heavy blanket, this one is worth a look.
The 10×10 foot blanket is probably too big to use as a bedspread, even on a double bed – we don’t think it’s practical as a throw. But it’s best suited for snuggling on the couch with the family. It’s pleasantly heavy, with a soft, smooth, and cozy texture, and we think it’s your dream Netflix marathon blanket.
This super soft fabric is a blend of polyester and spandex, which gives the blanket some stretch. Despite its thickness, the material isn’t too thick, and while it provides a decent amount of warmth, it doesn’t feel stuffy. We also appreciated the luxurious feel of this blanket, and thought it felt higher quality than other blankets we tested.
In our durability tests, coffee stains were completely removed from the fabric, and after washing, the fabric looked like new, with no noticeable stains, snags, or discoloration. The fabric is also durable enough to withstand a lot of pet rubbing with only a few visible scratches. The only downside? It’s easy to clean, but due to its large size, it takes a long time to dry.
Product Details: Dimensions: 120 x 120 inches | Material: Polyester and spandex | Weight: 520 gsm | Care Instructions: Machine wash
Many blankets require you to choose between softness and aesthetics. That’s not the case with the ChappyWrap Harborview Herringbone Family Blanket. Featuring a classic two-tone blue herringbone pattern, this blanket is exceptionally soft thanks to a combination of natural and synthetic fibers.
In terms of appearance, we noticed that the duvet was very well made. We also noticed that the stitching was intact and perfect, the fabric had an even texture, and the herringbone pattern was clearly visible. It is also perfect for a king-size bed, with enough overhang to fully cover two sleepers, but still comfortable enough to not drag on the floor.
In our testing, we found the blanket to be soft to the touch, reminiscent of a thick wool blanket, but without the rough texture. It’s also quite heavy and overall quite comfortable.
Thanks to its weight and softness, we think it’s a great choice for both warm and cool nights. We found that while it heats up quickly, it retains heat well enough to not feel stuffy. However, it doesn’t feel particularly cool, so if you tend to get hot at night, you might want to consider a more breathable fabric.
This blanket costs $195, which is in the middle of our price range. However, considering the quality and construction, we think the price is reasonable.
